The apparent and clear truth that the Savior in biblical accounts requests a form of radical love focused on the poor has consistently rendered the Christian faith somewhat of a scandalous religion: attractive to the populace, but because of its natural unconventionality demanding to be restrained. In the fifties it was contained through watering down – Protestantism was so dominant that it essentially baptized the status quo.
