Israelis have gathered across the country to remember two years since the Hamas-led offensive on 7 October 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the war in Gaza.

The assault resulted in more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most lethal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the goals of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The government authorities delayed state memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of mediated discussions to discuss the conditions of the agreement.

A high-ranking representative knowledgeable about the talks indicated that an evening round of mediated discussions commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative explained the morning session concluded without significant progress, due to conflicting views over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not recommence combat after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but pointed out that mediators are making efforts to close the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Essential Matters in Discussions

  • A permanent truce
  • The exchange of the prisoners still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance distribution
  • Post-war governance of the region

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, young a woman - whose brother endured the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were lost their lives and numerous more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place feels like home now and until every captive come back none of us will have peace of mind."

"Once we see all home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can start to heal," she concluded.

Near the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel reports nearly fifty continue in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be alive.

Demonstrator one woman remarked: "We must do every compromise required for the abducted to return. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be secure."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that about 70% of Israelis desire the war to end in return for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the music event, grieving people came together to pay their respects.

From the site, the sound of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers indicated the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr districts and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the night arrives, the anxiety arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli air strike previously, described.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the bombings. During nighttime we are resting together, holding each other, notably my little child who puts his face on me the entire evening."

"Every second we check the reports to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Health Situation

The medical facility in Gaza City announced it had accepted the bodies of half dozen people by the midday, including several who died in an Israeli attack in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of the city indicated another two victims had been delivered. An individual was died by Israeli troops while looking for aid to the south, health workers stated.
