The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four separate souls, each with unique fears and drives. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips show the protagonist exploring a desolate church.

A World of Personal Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic involves controlling whichever soul emerges at any given time. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms where their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one standing could be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
