New information has come to light concerning the shocking passing of renowned film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their residence home on Sunday.
As detailed in an account quoting a person close to the family, a therapist scheduled for an session first raised the alarm after not being able to enter the residence. This individual then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
When she went into the house, Romy found her father's body. It is said she then fled the house in anguish, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. Another individual who had gone with her then dialed 911. Subsequently, first responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Authorities have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, including the charge related to a weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently detained without bail.
The person close to the family challenged several previously reported details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that juncture.
The source also disputed published notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "worried" about Nick's behavior in the preceding period. Rather the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement applies to accounts of reportedly "unpredictable" conduct by Nick at a party thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. While the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they said that reports of a "major confrontation" between the two were inaccurate.
According to law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports indicated the state of their bodies implied they had been dead for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the scene. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, said his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until Wednesday at the earliest.
