Prince Andrew relinquishes his title as York's Duke.

He is giving up his honors, among them the Duke of York, he has stated in a own words.

He has been under growing pressure over his connections with disgraced financier the financier, with requests for the Palace to take action against him.

That now looks to have resulted in the figure deciding to of his own accord give up his designations and to give up involvement of the prestigious order.

In his statement he said he continued to "strongly deny the claims against me".

"In discussion with the King, and my close and wider family, we have agreed the persistent accusations about me divert from the work of the monarch and the Royal Family," said a message from the royal.

"I have decided, as I always have, to put my responsibility to my family and nation first.

"I stand by my decision five years ago to step back from public life.

"With the King's agreement, we think I must now go a additional measure. I will therefore no longer use my designation or the awards which have been bestowed on me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the allegations against me."

The royal has encountered a number of issues, such as a court case he settled with Virginia Giuffre, inquiries about his finances and his involvement with an alleged foreign agent.

He will stay a royal - but will discontinue to be the the Duke, a designation bestowed from his the late Queen, the late Queen Elizabeth.

The prince had already ceased to be a "active member" and had lost the use of his HRH title and no longer appeared at public engagements. His position now will be even more lessened.

His ex-wife will be known as Sarah and no longer Duchess of York, but their daughters will continue to have the designation of princesses.

Prince Andrew has been under strong attention over his links with convicted sex offender Epstein, more lately involving questions about when he had really cut off ties.

In his media discussion, Prince Andrew had said that he had ended all connections with Jeffrey Epstein after they had been photographed together in the city in December 2010.

But messages sent in early 2011 later surfaced implying that the prince had in private stayed in contact with him, including exchanging a message: "Stay in contact and we'll meet again soon!"

There had been increasing displeasure in Buckingham Palace at the controversies that continued to surround the prince.

In the coming days a late publication by the accuser will be released which is anticipated to draw more scrutiny on Prince Andrew's connection with the plaintiff and the financier.
