New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police issued security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was anticipated to become an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in March.
