Lindsey Vonn Assured of Being 'in prime form' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of securing a podium spot for the fourth time in her last five World Cup competitions.

The 41-year-old, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Competing at the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," the skier commented. "After that, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are timely.

She has an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
