Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
