Disaster Hits as Inadvertent Detonation at Law Enforcement Facility in Indian-administered Kashmir Claims Nine Fatalities

A tragic detonation at a police station in the Kashmir region under Indian control has resulted in the loss of nine persons and wounding to thirty-two others, according to authority reports.

The occurrence occurred when a stockpile of impounded blast substances accidentally blew up during handling procedures.

Timeline of Incidents

The detonation occurred on Friday evening at the Nowgam security post, where blast substances confiscated in the Faridabad area in the northern state of Haryana state were being kept briefly.

Regional police chief declared that the blast materials were awaiting forensic examination when a "extremely tragic" accident during processing caused their detonation at approximately 23:20 local time.

Official Statements

Security forces asserted that this was an "accidental detonation" and rather than a terrorist attack. "Any other speculation regarding the origin of this incident is unneeded," emphasized the security director during a media conference.

The police station experienced extensive destruction from the explosion, with neighboring structures also being impacted by the powerful blast.

Impact and Fatalities

Several automobiles were "covered in blaze and reduced to charred husks, with fragments distributed across the site," according to police accounts.

"The power of the detonation was such that some body parts were retrieved from adjacent homes, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the law enforcement facility," mentioned an authority informant.

Most of the fatalities were police officers, along with technical investigation team, two crime scene photographers, and a garment worker who was accompanying the group.

The territory's Regional Leader stated commiserations and confirmed that an inquiry had been directed into the devastating event.

"I have ordered a investigation to establish the origin of the inadvertent detonation. Profoundly distressed by the fatalities of important persons due to exceptionally devastating unintentional explosion at Nowgam law enforcement facility in Srinagar city. My commiserations to the bereaved families. I wish for quick healing of the injured," expressed the official on social media.
