“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was brimming with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”

He further emphasized that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”

League Context for Owner Fines

This is not the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases include:

• Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
